Our Local Lay Society

This Society (SSVP) is a worldwide Catholic lay organization that strives to create a network of charity, serving Christ in the suffering, the poor, and the marginalized. Our mission is to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the local poor with love, respect, justice and joy.

Vincentians, as we are called, we strive to:

• See Christ in anyone who suffers;

• Come together as a family;

• Have personal contact with the poor;

• Help in all possible ways.

So what do we do? We encounter local people in need through home visits carried out in pairs. Following a visit, we seek to help in all possible ways, within our means. Our aim is not only to give immediate help, but also to help people to find short and long term solutions, whenever possible.

Referrals

If you know of an individual(s) in need please approach any of the SSVP members in person or email stvincentdepaul.spab@gmail.com. It is important that you receive the permission of the individual(s) before making a referral.

Getting Involved

We are grateful to have help from the Missionary Sisters of Charity as we go forward in this work. If you would like to become involved you can join us for a regular monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of every month at 7 pm in Salle Larose hall at the Cathedral.

​

You can also be involved as an auxiliary member or casual helper or by donating household goods or funds. Right now we are looking for volunteers who could help with clearing out our storage space. Once the space is clear we will begin taking donations of large household items that are clean and in good repair. We are in immediate need

of living room furniture, a kitchen table and chairs, and mattresses and beds, queen if possible. Among other activities being planned, we will also be looking after the Food Bank donations at the entrance of the church. We will keep you informed as we go along.
